Another month is gone and we are approaching October already. There is another 85 days left before the year end. Time has passed so fast and when I looked back, it seemed that nothing has been achieved for the past nine months this year!
For my company, heard the taking over (buying over) by another company was not successful and I am stil I am in the same position. Really look forward for some changes, but do not know when this day will come!
Recently, the Lehman brothers bankrupt, AIG financial crisis and now more banks in USA are facing the crisis...... all these has lead to the inflation coming faster and faster. People got money worry, those people no money also worry... Perhaps all of us have to adopt a 'wait' approach for another two to three years. According to history, after inflation there will always be another bloom. We shall wait!

An enjoyable trip to Tioman Island
Just came back from Tioman last weekend.
A group of us, 2 adults and 4 children - we took a 3 hours coach ride to Tanjung Gemok Jetty Termianl and another 2 hours boat to reach Bejaya Tioman Beach Resort.
Tioman island has a very nice coastline. The beach is very clean and the water is very clear. We stayed at the beach for the 1st day afternoon and enjoy the sea breeze.
On 2nd day morning, we joined the resort half day Snorkelling trip. First, they brought us to the shallow water to learn and try out snorkelling. As the water is crystal clear, we could see fishes even at shallow water. Later, we went to two more places for snorkelling and the children enjoy themselves very much. We could see corals and many marine fishes. It's a really very enjoyable trip!
Will share some photos on the blog next time!

Time passed very fast……
My birthday is over, our National Day is over….. and now come the time where my colleagues are leaving soon (in another 3 days).
This two days have been seeing my FC with the Finance management team busy with some very confidential project going on. I started to feel blue. Do not know when will be my retrenchment come. Is it difficult to find another job ? Many many questions come to my mind….

Retrenchment
Today I heard another sad news. 3 department colleagues (about 10 pps in all) in my office received their notice of termination. Their last day will be on 23 August 2008.
The reason given by the management is to centralize in Suzhou all departments that have regional impact on our business . For the time being, 3 departments will be affected.
Fast in three months time, or the most another 6 months, perhaps I will also be one of the victims. To these ‘Ang Mo’ there is no such thing called ‘Royalty’. Money is always on top priority. Compensations to these staff ? I heard, some did not even entitle to any compensation.

Retrenchment ????
Heard from colleagues another department will also undergoing retrenchment soon. The news made the staff in that department all worrying……. Do not know when is their turn and who will be the scapegoat.
How could the company hold both offices in Singapore and Malaysia. The labour cost and everything in Malaysia is so much cheaper compare to Singapore. Everyone in the office is talking that Singapore office is going to close sooner or later. With China office now being the HQ for Asia Pacific, Singapore is no longer the hub. That gave another reason to close our office down.
I hope I have good luck - I could find a suitable position in another company soon before it happen to me!!!

Last Friday, received a call from an old friend.... to tell me that her husband passed away. It's so sudden, at age 48. She guest it was sudden heart attack and the husband faithed at home. When ambulance came, it was all too late......
I could imagine, the feeling on the loss of the beloved. It took me more than a year to overcome the loss and another year to adjust the life back to normal. Even until now (more than 3 years), I still could not totally pack all my beloved hubby belonging and throw away. My beloved occassionally come into my dream..........
Life, is always so unpredictable. We should learn to treasure our life everyday as if we don't know what will happen tomorrow.

Hello and Goodbye
Yesterday heard about the retrenchment of one of my colleague, from another department. The company is closing down this department in our Singapore office and re-locating the department to our plant in China Suzhou.
This colleague wrote in his blog that he felt loss on the sudden lost of the job. With only 10 minutes notice, he packed his bag and desk and left the company. No time to say goodbye to his colleagues, no time to react what was going on.
The happening made me felt that perhaps the whole company is re-locating very soon. Perhaps next one will be my department. Our Malaysia factory has already opened. I also understand that our Finance guy is doing this project. Perhaps in the very near future, the whole operations will be shifted to Malaysia. What will happen to me? I asked myself. The company does not need a person to co-ordinate orders and shipments from Singapore if production and finished goods are all in Malaysia.
Perhaps it is time for me to think about my future………

Thank you and Goodbye Boss
Today is my boss last day in Singapore, before he retires back to his hometown in Switzerland. Having spent 23 years in Singapore, he could consider himself half a Singaporean (although he does not like to become PR). He knows how to play 4D & Toto better than any one of us in the office. He likes all the food in Singapore from Roti Prata to Roasted Meat Rice. He enjoys riding around Singapore island with his 'Yamaha' motorbike during the weekend.
He is the 'Best' boss I have met in my twenty years of working life. Although he occassionally got frustrated and sometimes very slow in actions, he shows a lot of concerns to the staff. He always said 'jokes' which helped the staff to de-stress. He treasure the value of 'family'.
My boss has given me a lot of support and helped me in one way or another to pass through the most difficult times in my life - when my husband was seriously ill and later on passed away.
I salute to my boos, and sincerely express my thanks to him. I wish him enjoy his new 'golden' years with his favourite things that could keep him occupy.
Thank you, my boss!

1 day Durian Tour to Muar
Last Saturday, Adeline and me followed the Tampinese Central CC one day tour to Muar for durian feast.
After checked in to both Customs, the coach brought us to a place for breakast on our own expense. After that, it took us about an hour to arrive at Muar for durian. Heard from the owner of the durian plantation said, these durian just started to fall, so the taste will be so good. May be 2-3 weeks later when the durian starts to fall a lot, that will be the best timing to eat durian.
After enjoying our durian feast, the guide brought us to Muar biggest bakery shop where they sell the famous 'Tao Sa Bian' and all kinds of pastry.
After that, we went for our lunch. Everyone of us was so full (eat too much durian) that the lunch become not enjoyable. What a waste!
Thereafer, we went to Batu Pahat, the guide said that 'The Summit' is the biggest shopping complex in Batu Pahat. But really, there are not much interesting things, as compared to shopping areas in JB, Malacca or KL.
After shopping in Batu Pahat, the journey continues to Yong Peng for further shopping - we went to a Chocolate Specialist shop and another Bakery shop before we went for our dinner.
After dinner, we headed back to Singapore.
This is quite an enjoyable trip...... Two of us with no worry on children following, can walk and shop as we like.

Deadly Earthquake in China
On May 12, 2008 at 2.28 pm, the 8-magnitude earthquake strike Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province, China. Till date, deadly tremor has killed more than 32,000 people, injured more than 220,000 and destroyed more than 500,000 buildings. I have also read more than 6,000 schools were destroyed in this earthquake. Everyday watching the news in the TV made me felt so sadden. Life is fragile. You see the people being trapped in the debris and are waiting to pull out. When I saw on the TV that these people survive after more than 100 hours, I felt happy for them and admire their strong will power to live. Tents, foods and drinking waters are insufficient. These people have no homes.
施 比 受 更 有 福. 一 方 有 难 , 八 方 支 援. There are so many people in different countries all pour in their help to the people in China. The rescue teams that work every day and night to help pull out the survivors are great hero and we shall pay our high respect to these people. For normal people, donation have been pouring into China from all over the world to help the Chinese pass over their trouble, re-build their house, and etc etc…..
I have also contributed a small donation to the China Red Cross Society through our sister company in Suzhou China. 聚 少 成 多. Everyone in Singapore should also contribute their part to help the Quake-Hit China people. We have to remember - ‘We are very fortunate to be born and home in Singapore which is free of earthquake and water disaster’

The mother of teenage children
As a mother is really not an easy task, especially when the children become teenagers.
Waking ups the children, rushing them to be on time for school is considered nagging to them. Call them to study harder, and not to be on the computer or phone for too long is considered nagging to them. Checking what kind of friends they mix with is considered nagging to them. Asking them to eat dinner is considered nagging to them. Asking them to tidy up the room is considered nagging to them.
Perhaps only if the children know to do things ‘automatically’, then we do not need to be keep calling and calling and become a nagging mummy. Perhaps only when the children become parents, then they understand the heart of being a parent.
I started to feel loneliness as the children grown to teenagers. They have their circle of friends and barrier started between our communications. I know sometimes my tone is wrong, but I felt the children show no patience towards the parents. I really wonder nowadays how come the youngsters could talk to their friends and they could not talk to their parents properly. Is this really the starting of ‘代沟’ ?
In order to prevent unhappiness, I could only keep quiet, keep my eyes away from what they are doing. If I don’t see, I don’t nag. But I felt lonesome and I started to miss my beloved hubby, only if he could be with me till I old.
The children do not understand why I like to go back to my mum’s house early. At least over there, I have the company of my mum, my sisters and the others that I could talk with and I don’t feel that I am alone.

My annual leave entitlement
I verbally asked him twice and he just do not want to approve my leave application. The third time, I decided to write an official e-mail to him, explaining the reason of taking leave – my family and me are going to Malaysia for a short holiday. This is the only week my children are available for holiday. I copy my e-mail to my former boss, who is now the head of our consumer unit and my boss’s boss. According to my former boss, he spoke to my new boss and told him to approve my annual leave. He even suggested to him to discuss with me and not through e-mailing here and there which is no good for communication within the same department. BUT, my new boss just approved my leave quietly without even spoke to me anything concerning this matter. This is the blockage of the communication!
Another matter, my new boss told me that our VP said no one is allowed to take leave after Labour Day and continue for long weekend. So he could not approve my leave application for 02/05/2008. Because Labour Day (01/05/08) falls on Thursday, if employee takes a day off on Friday, they could enjoy long weekend. This is without HR confirmation. I checked this matter with our HR manager and was told that the management passed no such rule and the HR manager has also spoken to my new boss. Guest what he told her ??? ‘He has approved my leave’ HAHAHA! Gods knows.
The problem is if my boss got the wrong information, he should at least clarify with his staff but he chooses not to. This is another blockage of the communication. How are we, his subordinate going to trust him in future ?
For this his long weekend, my boss will be going to visit clients in KL (his family is there). What a perfect arrangement! LOL

Remembrance
Dear my beloved hubby
I dream of you again last night, and I want to tell you :
WE HAVE NOT TURNED WEAKER BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT AROUND WITH US
WE HAVE BECOME STRONGER BECAUSE OF YOU
我 们 不 会 因 为 你 的 离 去 而 变 得 软 弱
我 们 会 因 为 你 不 在 而 变 得 更 坚 强

Hearing Test Clear
Yesterday I went to TTSH for my 2nd review on the ear's hearing test. The doctor gave me a clean report and assured me that that the 'spinning' that I felt is not a problem. But if I still feel the spinning and it becomes severe, then I could go back to check, otherwise, NO review is needed!
It is the particles in the inner ears that sometimes could not receive the signals fats enough. So it may have a minute of delay and caused the 'spinning' effect.
Occassionally, if I turned suddenly or I felt excited, I felt my surrounding - the wall, the furniture all 'spinning'. But it only occurred for a minute, and I always tried to cool down, close my eyes and the 'spin' will go off.

Good news
Although I had a bad day on Saturday, I received good news on Sunday.
My second nephew is getting married on this 19 December 2008. Congratulation, Yang and Candice!
Wow! After his elder brother married last December, Yang is following the brother to have his own family. Hope, next year we could hear good news from other nieces and nephews too! Then our SOH family will be extending and expanding!
With eight months to go, preparations will soon going to start. But because we have the experiences from last year wedding ceremony, this time it will be smoother!
Congratulation again to Yang and Candice!

A bad day
I had a very bad day last Saturday. The incident happened at my sister's home at Palm Garden. Because of some bird shits that stained to my little car, I decided to give her a clean up and was washing my car in the basement car park.
Suddenly, a man with a security guard came by. The man was very rude. Without even approached me, he just told the security guard - ‘take picture take picture, ban this car from coming in next time’. When I heard that, I was a bit angry and I started to ask the man ‘you means I cannot wash my car here? Why are you banning my car from coming in, you did not even give me a warning and you just ban my car from entering this place’. The man ignored me and continued to tell the security guard ‘ take picture take picture’. This time I was real angry and started to raise my voice ‘you mean just because I wash my car here and without any warning, you are going to ban me from coming in her to visit my sister, my family? Is this what your management practice here?’ The man continued to ignore me and walked away. I felt very insulted and was full of fire. I was talking to the wall.
I will always remember that arrogant guy if he ever let me see him again.
I told my sister of the incident. She told me not to afraid of them. This is just a small incident, the most we pay them back the water usage. How much can I use to wash a small car? If at a HDB car park, every pail costs 20cents, the most it costs me 60cents for 3 pails of water used at Palm garden. What so great about it?
But I have decided not to go Palm garden at least for a period of time. I do not want to be insulted again and stop by the security at the guardhouse

It has been exactly a month since I last posted. Everyday is a busy day and sometimes I don't even have time to go online to read blogs.
To my work, there is NO off peak period now. There are more work passing down, more orders to process, BUT in the end, the management reported a drop in sales ??? Since last year, my company has announced no extra bonus will be given. So there seem no motivation to push the people in my work place. Time after time and day after day, we just go on with our routine work. Office atmosphere is also no good. Remember last time when my Swiss boss is around, there is always laughter. But now, it seems that nobody like to talk to each other, unless related to work.
Petrol prices up and up every week. Groceries items like rice, noddles, instant noodles, bread all increase in prices. INFLATION is coming and I am learning to tighten my belt.

I made it
This whole week from Monday to Friday (today) my mum-in-law was not in Singapore and left me to prepare dinner for my two kids. Since Monday, I have rushed home immediately after work to prepare dinner. We all prefer to eat home cooked food rather than buy from outside.. So during lunch time, I already sort of decided what to cook for dinner.
On Monday, we had doufu, fishball and mixed of other ingredients as soup (just like steamboat) with roasted duck. I cooked more rice on Monday night and kept it for Fried Rice on Tuesday. Wednesday, we had steamed cod fish, steam doufu eggs, and dark sauce chicken. My son was amazed to find that I could cooked three dishes within half an hours..... Yesterday, I reached home and found that my daughter already started to cook Spagetti.... what a good job she has done ! Tonight, I;m going to prepare 'liang dou fu' soup and steam fish.........
I realised that sometimes without the elder at home, at least we will learn to be independent...... cheer!

Feb 29
Wow! It has been exactly one month since I last posted. Today is February 29, the leap month of February which occurs only every 4 years. I learned from my son last night how this 'extra' date come........ the earth revolves around the sun....... and one year is actually 365 and 1/4 days, so by the 4th years, we will gain one day, which is February 29.

Reunion Dinner
Dont really like reunion dinner these days. Taking reunion dinner must go with the right person, the atmosphere will then be right, we could then enjoy the dinner. 和 对 的 人 吃 饭 才 会 有 对 的 气 氛,吃 了 才 会 有 味。 After dinner and New Year, 每 个 人 又 变 成 了 莫 生 人。
Since the passing of my beloved hubby and my father-in-law, the atmosphere at my mother-in-law house seemed to be changing every year. The atmosphere is stiffed. The so called ‘brother-in-law’ and ‘sister-in-law’ (my ....in-law) could not get along with each other and for the last two years, the dinner was not enjoyable at all.
After marriage for seventeen years, I never have reunion dinner with my mum. She is already old. This year, perhaps I should have the courage to ask for excuse .......

The so called ‘brother-in-law’ and ‘sister-in-law’ (my ....in-law) could not get along with each other and for the last two years, the dinner was not enjoyable at all.

Last week got so many happenings at home….... First on Thursday, my room TV got an ‘explosion’ and the smoke came out from the TV. The best thing was the screen still feature the TV show and my daughter at a moment did not realized the TV has an internal ‘explosion’. What a frightening moment!!
旧的不去,新的不来. Last Saturday, we bought a new branded LCD TV 32’ for $999/. Should be quite worth it.
On Sunday morning, a close relative was doing something that has destroyed all our relationship. She was accusing my daughter and challenging her to an act, which I think a mature adult will not do it. In the first place, it was some accusation between the cousins, but once the adult stepped in, the situation will be totally different.
I told my daughter she has to learn from the lesson. In the first place, she may also be wrong to post their ‘wrong actions’ in her blog which of course when the person read it, will instantly be angry. But there is a saying, 若要人不知,除非己么为。 Actions speak more than words. If a person does not have a ‘wrong act’, he/she will not create wrong impression to others.
For that, I also sacrificed one new winter jacket. I lent it out to a senior relative and this relative initiated to bring it for dry washing. But more than two months has passed, my new jacket was still dont know whereabout. For me, I already regarded my new winter jacket as ‘lost’.
Whatever it is, let's bygone be bygone. As long as we know where and when to put a stop, then we are ok. Children, learn something from this lesson and see other people's behaviours as a mirror for our reflexion.

Happy New Year 2008
It's new year again! Time flies.
Happy New Year and hope everyone has good health, happiness and prosperity.
December 2007 was a busy month to complete my year 2007! Besides the busy work flow every day due to the peak festive seasons, I went holiday to Taiwan, and after which, was busy helping to prepare my nephew's wedding.
Christmas and New Year day just passed by me so fast. I have not much energy to react and think what to do in the New Year 2008.
Passing the New Year, I went to Kuching, Sarawak on 04 Jan 2008 with my mum, brother, sister, sister-in-law and uncle, auntie to attend my nephew's wedding dinner again ( his wife is from Kuching ) and also tour around the Kuching town for 4 days 3 nights.
Back home now, and realised that Chinese New Year is around the corner and is busy again to do 'spring cleaning' and shopping...........
Wow! my time just passed so fast each day. Hope I could share some of the photos in my next blog.
